OSHA to inspect 4,400 high-hazard work sites
This year’s program is targeting sites that reported 12 or more injuries or illnesses for every 100 full-time workers resulting in days away from work, restricted work activity or job transfer (known as the DART rate). The list will also include sites that have a Days Away From Work Injury and Illness rate of 9 or higher. The program stems from OSHA’s Data Initiative for 2004 that surveyed approximately 80,000 employers to attain injury and illness data for 2003. Targeted locations also will include those companies that did not respond to the survey. The industries listed in the table above have an industry DART rate from 7 to 11.9 as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Annual Survey. These private-sector industries have the highest incidence rates of non-fatal occupational injury and illness cases with days away from work, restricted work activity or job transfer as of 2003.
